The New Lilith Fair Promises to Go the Country Route

The Lilith Fair, a music festival which is regarded as a celebration of women in music, is returning after over a decade-long hiatus. Consisting primarily of female solo artists and female-led groups, Lilith Fair has been regarded as an effective platform for introducing female artists from varied genres to a wider audience. Female country musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Martina McBride, and the Dixie Chicks have all performed in this festival.
In the newly revamped Lilith Fair, which will have a two-week tour slated for Britain and Europe, country music Miranda Lambert, Emmylou Harris, and Sugarland will be some of the major country stars confirmed to join the 2010 staging of this tour. Asked regarding her involvement in the Fair, Lambert says, “I am excited to be part of a tour that celebrates and acknowledges talented women from all genres of music, and am so proud to have the opportunity to join the prestigious line up of past female artists who have performed on Lilith Fair.”
The participation of other female country stars are still awaiting confirmation, but those who are already looking forward to watching at the show are hoping to see Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Kellie Pickler in the line-up. Apart from the three top country music acts mentioned above, the first set of artists confirmed to perform in the festival include Erykah Badu, A Fine Frenzy, Sarah Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, Indigo Girls, and Sheryl Crow.
Co-founded by the ethereal Canadian musician and main stage headliner Sarah McLachlan, among many others, Lilith Fair is a traveling music festival and concert tour which had its heyday in the years 1997 to 1999. In the course of these three years, the fair has raised over $10 million dollars for various women charities throughout Northern America. Aside from this, the festival is an optimum venue for local female artists to get noticed outside of their home towns or cities. The Lilith Local Talent Search is  Lilith Fair was a result of McLachlan’s frustration with radio stations and concert tour organizers’ refusal to feature two female artists one after the other. Named after “Lilith” the name of Adam’s first wife based on the medieval Jewish legend, the tour was groundbreaking to say the least for proving industry insiders wrong by featuring only female musicians and female-led bands. In 1997, the tour grossed $16 million dollars, the top-grossing tour for that year.  According to McLachlan, “Being a part of Lilith Fair was inspiring on so many levels. Besides discovering new music everyday and sharing the stage with an incredible array of talented women, it was wonderful to see established and new artists alike have the opportunity to play in front of much larger or more diverse audiences than usual.”
The first round of cities that will host Lilith Fair are as follows: Atlanta (GA), Calgary (AB), Dallas (TX), Los Angeles (CA), Montreal (QC), Philadelphia (PA), Seattle (WA), Toronto (ON), Washington (DC), Boston (MA), Chicago (IL), Denver (CO), Minneapolis (MN), New York (NY), Portland (OR), San Francisco (CA), Vancouver (BC), and London (UK).
