Move Over Girls, The Lady is Back!

The recent years have seen an upsurge in the popularity of young female country singers whose powerful pipes and good looks helped pave their way to success; and, although their songs still talked about the heartaches and pains of losing a lover, they do so now with maturity and such confidence. However, before the Taylor Swifts and Carrie Underwoods dominated the country music charts, there was Shania Twain.

Praised not only for her singing skills but also for her undeniable good looks, Twain was the “it” girl of country music back in the ‘90s. However, aside from being just another pretty face, Twain changed the way female singers were represented in the industry. Furthermore, along with Garth Brooks, she helped boost record sales and expand the popularity of country music among American and international fans through her best-selling album, “The Woman in Meand the crossover hit “Come On Over.”

After dominating the charts with a string of successful country and pop albums, Twain suddenly decided to leave the spotlight when her marital problems began to get more media rather than her music. In May 2008, she finally announced the breakup of her marriage to fellow country superstar Mutt Lange amidst reports of his infidelity. She has kept a low pubic profile since then.

Today, it seems like Twain is set to stage a comeback amidst growing buzz in the media.

First, Twain sat as a guest judge on “American Idol” during the Chicago auditions. Then, she made a welcome appearance at the recently concluded CMA Awards, in which she presented the Entertainer of the Year award to Kenny Chesney. Twain greeted everyone by saying, “It’s good to see all of you too.” Hinting at a comeback, she added, “I hope to be seeing a lot more of you.”

On her 44th birthday on August 20th, she recently posted a long letter and a video addressed to her fans. “Thought I would drop a line to catch you up on things in my life and what better time than on my birthday,” was how she opened her letter.

“Why I decided to share this personal side of my life with you at this point is to answer the questions I get asked so often lately: “how are you, where have you been and what have you been doing?” according to Twain.

“I feel very much alive and well, ready to take on the gift of another year. I’ve been on a few interesting trips, reading some helpful and motivating books, meeting fascinating people and getting the most out of life that I possibly can. Living, loving, laughing and dreaming have become highest on my list of priorities. I’m looking for places to be and things to do that inspire me to write and be creative, concentrating on moving on and forward.”

Clearly, Twain has found a new love and inspiration in “Fred,” the person whom she talked about for the most part. Finally, with newfound confidence, it seems she is now ready to step out, perform, and make records again. Sounding excited and very much eager to “move forward,” we should expect bigger things from Twain in the near future.
