Country Sweetheart Carrie Underwood Releases Latest Single

Fans who have been missing Carrie Underwood’s voice behind a new song got the surprise of their lives when, in a rather unprecedented move, people from her camp chose to release the singer’s latest single, “Cowboy Casanova,” way ahead of the scheduled September 14 release. Rather than be mad at reports that an early version of the track was leaked on the Internet, the final version of the single was released on popular video-sharing site Youtube.com on September 3, 2009.

“Cowboy Casanova” is, of course, the first single from Underwood’s highly anticipated third album which, according to her website, is officially entitled “Play On.” In what promises to be another monster hit for the singer, “Cowboy Casanova” carries over the theme of the jilted lover warning potential victims, which has also been wonderfully rendered by Underwood in her biggest hit “Before He Cheats.” Certainly, Casanova is a far cry from traditional country music and some traditionalists might frown at such a treatment, however, the song is undeniably catchy and is poised to be another hit for the multi-awarded singer.

“Cowboy Casanova’s” catchy hook and upbeat tempo could be attributed to co-writer Mike Elizondo who has written tracks for pop artists such as 50 Cent, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Mary J. Blige, among others. Meanwhile, its lyrics and signature country flair come from the fact that Underwood co-wrote the song with Grammy Award-winning country music record producer, songwriter, and singer Brett James whose last collaborative effort with Underwood produced “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” a huge track that took country music by storm and won the 2006 Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

According to her official website, the single was released ahead of schedule because they “…wanted members of Carrie’s web community to get an early listen in.” Furthermore, it has been formally confirmed that the single will indeed appear in Carrie Underwood’s latest album set to be released this November. “Play On,” the title of Underwood’s third studio album, is in fact the title of one of the songs featured on the new album.

This year, Underwood gained the sole distinction of being the only American Idol winner and the first country artist in history to have ever achieved 10 Number 1 singles from just her first two albums. One of the more successful grand winners of the FOX-TV hit show American Idol, Underwood has parlayed her win into a successful music career that has managed to straddle two genres, pop and country, with outstanding results. Her fresh face, fierce vocals, and mass appeal won her legions of fans across the country, while her fresh approach to country music singing and songwriting translated into various awards including four Grammys and back-to-back CMA and ACM Female Vocalist awards. She also won the prestigious ACM Entertainer of the Year award.

Although the single is currently being played over at her official website, Underwood is set to formally introduce “Cowboy Casanova” on October 2, 2009, via a live performance at the historic Grand Ole Opry.
